One of the latest real estate pessimist stories is that renting is better than owning.  Have you heard this?  Really?  Since when is investing in your own property a bad thing?  If you use real estate as a short term investment, instead of the long term investment for which it has been built, then yes, there is some risk to your investment possibly.  But, who is investing for the short term these days outside of very safe, secure investment vehicles (like a savings or money market account?).

Long term investment in real estate, especially when it is for your own primary residence, still trumps renting.  It's all about personal comfort and satisfaction, but then again, shouldn't it be? 

One other thing.  Many of the buyers that I work with have made the comment "but what if Ilose my job"?  My response?  What if you lose your job while you are renting?  The landlord will not work with you, and will evict you much more quickly than a mortgage holder, who will work with you to help you stay in your home.

So, if you have been sitting on the sidelines, believing that paying rent to someone who controls your actions, your decorating, your outdoor gardening abilities, etc., then it is tie to give me a call and let me challenge that way of thinking.  It is time to get busy and start looking for that house to buy.  The values are there and the bottom is being felt, inventories are shrinking so don't be the one who waited too long to get the best value!
